Everyone is looking for a miracle. Everyone is looking for an answer. Everyone is looking for God to reveal Himself to them! In Epiphany God reveals Himself in both Majesty and Goodness. He reveals Himself in miracles but (more importantly) also in the preaching of the Gospel.

We may not always be able to describe what real authority means, but we certainly know it when we see it. The authority of God is central to our readings today. Especially the authority of Jesus as revealed in the Word, and by His Words and actions.

Where God has given us forgiveness and the hope of eternal life, sometimes our sinful nature in turn takes away our sense of urgency. I’ll get to it later, and if not that’s still OK … I’m forgiven. But the Gospel is never complacent! It is a message full of urgency for a world that is even now dying around us!

Hearing and Listening are not the same thing. To hear you need only your ears. To listen you need your heart and your mind as well. Hearing God changes nothing, but to truly listen will change the way we live our whole life!

In the beginning God created all things perfect, but Adam and Eve exchanged that perfection for sin and death in the fall. Yet God came in the flesh, to exchange His life for ours … to pay for our sin with His holiness … to take our death upon Himself and give us life in return. The Baptism of Jesus marks the beginning of this great exchange.
