Today we light the pink candle on the advent wreath. The candle of Joy in the midst of our penitence and preparation. It may seem almost out of place, but then that’s true joy … it has nothing to do with our outward circumstances. True joy comes from a right relationship with God.

Jesus comes as Redeemer, the One Who sets us free from our sins. It is that redemption that gives us hope. Whether we think of His coming in judgment, through the Means of Grace, or His first coming at Christmas, the knowledge that He comes only because He loves us and wants to forgive and help us gives us the ability to wait and watch for His return, and the confidence to greet Him with joy when He comes!

The Cosmic Courtroom, the trial to end all trials. The all-encompassing accounting of the good and the bad. When God’s gavel falls in that Day of Judgment where will you stand? We Christians, need not fear the answer. Christ has already called us, gathered us, as a loving shepherd gathers his sheep.
