We all have our crosses to bear. Some might find this idea depressing … who wants to suffer? Certainly not us – we do not want it, but we will do it. We know that in the Cross of Christ all our cross bearing now leads to crown wearing.

The wilderness … it conjures up images of beauty, journeys, danger and loneliness. It is not a place you want to find yourself in alone. The wilderness is an apt picture our 40 day Lenten journey into the lonely dangers of our dark, sin-stained souls. Yet out in the wilderness we are not alone for there is where we find our God defeating all temptations, and the foes of sin, death, and the devil.

Everyone knows the pain of being excluded – left out, considered unworthy. Everyone knows the joy of feeling included – being welcomed in, being cared for. Today’s readings show us that God has come to put an end to our exclusion, by including us in His heavenly kingdom. Where sin once separated us from Him, in Christ we now have healing and a warm welcome back in.
